On Monday, 9 January 2023, there took place the very first online meeting of the International Supervisory and Advisory Board (ISAB), an international expert body whose aim it is to supervise and advise the National Institute for Cancer Research (NICR). Members of this board, which includes both outstanding specialists in various areas of cancer research and experts on legal, economic, and application issues, elected as their president Professor Daniela Elena Costea of the Universitetet i Bergen in Norway. Directors of the NICR discussed with representatives of the ISAB preparation of an evaluation report, which is an obligatory part of project reporting. ‘Collaboration with leading international experts is not only an important control mechanism, but also a source of valuable inspiration for addressing research subjects and an input that helps us cultivate the strategies adopted by our project on an ongoing basis,’ noted Aleksi Šedo, Director of the NICR.
‘Given that one of our main goals is to strengthen cancer research and improve its quality, it is unthinkable that we could proceed without collaboration with international colleagues of various specialisations, people who have more experience or are at present ahead of us in these activities. We believe, therefore, that the ISAB will help us with valuable advice regarding the directions our project should take and the ways in which we could improve the quality of cancer research in the Czech Republic,’ added Ondřej Slabý, Scientific Director of the NICR.
