Research Programme 1: The molecular basis of cancers and molecular targets

The main goal of this research programme of the NICR is to discover the molecular mechanisms of cancers and to identify prognostic, stratification, and therapeutic targets using the methods of molecular genetics, multiomics, imaging methods, and advanced techniques of cell biology including CRISPR/Cas-9 gene editing. These are, in brief, the main targets of another of NICR’s research programmes and Jan Trka, its main leader, is presenting them jointly with Aleksi Šedo.

Research Programme 5: Translational oncology – Verification clinical studies of the proof-of-concept type

The three pillars of a NICR research programme focused on translational oncology presented by Pavel Klener jointly with the programme’s main leader, Ludmila Boublíková, are: First, a research of primary tumour cells, which – if we know the clinical parameters – can help us discover the genetic changes responsible for therapy resistance or cancer relapse.

Research Programme 3: Biomarkers of Cancers and Cancer Diagnostics

Molecular changes associated with malignant transformation (including driver mutations and mechanisms of metastasis), tumour microenvironment, and detailed molecular characterisation of cancer aimed at finding personalised therapeutic plans for precision oncology are the three key areas of research presented by the programme’s main leaders Karel Smetana and Ondřej Slabý.

Research Programme 4: Early Detection and Prevention of Tumours

What are the main goals of this research programme of the NICR? How well are they being met? What successes did your colleagues and groups involved in research in the area of early detection and prevention of tumours already achieve? You will find answers to these questions and more in an article prepared by heads of this programme, Petr Džubák and Marek Svoboda.
