RESEARCH PROGRAMME(S)
RP 1 - Molecular basis of cancer and molecular targets
Watch out, dude! A tumor is not just cancer cells!
- Mission: To search for pathogenetically relevant processes that drive brain tumour progression
- Vision: To identify and target therapeutically or diagnostically relevant cellular and molecular targets in primary and secondary brain tumors
LCCB focuses on the role of plasma membrane-bound proteases in various physiological and pathophysiological processes, particularly in the pathogenesis of cancer. In addition to focused research on intercellular interactions in the tumor microenvironment that drive tumor growth, neoangiogenesis, and dysregulation of the anti-tumor local and systemic immune response, our translational projects focus on the development of innovative diagnostic (imaging) and therapeutic concepts exploiting different molecular targets, particularly in glioblastomas and brain metastases.
In collaboration with other groups in the consortium, we are developing and testing novel compounds to influence the behaviour of cell populations present in the tumour microenvironment and to use identified molecular targets for diagnostic or therapeutic applications.
