To connect experts across medical specialties, debunking myths about cancer diagnosis and treatment, while providing patients and their loved ones with the most up-to-date information with the help of leading Czech doctors and researchers.
These are the goals set by the Onko Pacient conference, organized for the second year by the Cancer Research Foundation.
“I really enjoy meeting colleagues from clinical practice, as well as representatives of patient organizations or individual patients and their loved ones. However, this is not the only motivation why we are organizing the Onko Pacient conference for the second time. Unfortunately, there are still many mistakes and myths circulating among the public, which are related to cancer prevention, diagnosis or treatment as well as cancer research. That is why we want to offer valid and up-to-date information to the general public across the various medical specialties that take care of cancer patients,” said Marián Hajdúch, Chairman of the Board of the Cancer Research Foundation.
One of the research programs of the National Institute for Cancer Research (NICR), which supports the Onko Pacient conference, also focuses on early detection and prevention of cancer. “We know that early detection of cancer allows targeted treatment to be initiated at a time when the disease is most treatable – and often curable – which greatly increases patients’ chances of a full recovery,” said Aleksi Šedo, Director of the NICR. Among other things, the mission of the NICR is to develop new methods and technologies for early diagnosis of cancer and identification of risk factors to make screening programs more effective, improve prevention options, increase treatment success and ultimately reduce patient mortality by catching cancers at early stages.
